The Service Technician is responsible for meeting all Service related needs of the offsite customer in the most timely, cost effective and safe manner possible. On a daily and/or as needed basis, the Service Technician is required to communicate cooperatively with a variety of people including the Service Manager, Dispatcher, the Customer, Lead/Charge Hand and/or a Warranty or Parts Administrator. The job includes completing a variety of paperwork, (each job completed is supported by a work order form, warranties and safety related forms if necessary). Providing estimated labour times in a timely and accurate manner, tracking and following up on jobs, ensuring that parts are ordered and on hand, as well as recommending additional repair opportunities are integral components of this position.
The Opportunity
The Service Technician reports directly to the Service Manager. Although employed and attached to a particular facility, the majority (if not all) of regularly assigned jobs and tasks are performed at a customer’s work place. On a daily basis, the Field Technician receives work assignments from the Dispatcher assigned to his/her geographic location.
- Performs work as assigned by Dispatcher
- Ensures all parts are present before traveling to site
- Performs repair work on a customer’s machinery
- Fills out work order forms for each job and secures customer signatures on all work order forms
- Discusses job details with the customer to ensure buy-in and reviews completed job for same reason
- If diagnosis time exceeds 2 hours, seeks help from Leadhand, Chargehand, Service Manager or Tech Center as required
- Looks for additional repair opportunities on retail jobs and communicates to supervisor or PSSR on each job
- Completes all necessary warranty paperwork as instructed by the warranty administrator
- In the event of a safety incident, completes all necessary paper work as laid out in the Leavitt Safety Program
- Follows all warranty processes laid out by the warranty department
- Keeps parts shelf and work area clean at all times including service truck
- Communicates actively with the field dispatcher after every job
- Regularly service and maintain their service truck at maintenance intervals by going to the dealership.
- Actively communicating with the parts department via phone or email to ensure parts are ordered (if necessary) while the tech is still at the job site
- Ensuring all paperwork is complete before leaving the job site
- Tracks and follows-up on parts for ongoing jobs
- On Warranty jobs, ensures parts are returned

As a Loading Dock & Door technician you will get the opportunity to repair various types of loading dock equipment and overhead doors throughout the geographic area we service.
To ensure your success, we will provide you with factory training to be proficient in the types and models of equipment you will be working on.
The Opportunity:
As a technician, you will serve a vital role which includes, but is not limited to:
- Conduct checks and diagnosing repairs for a variety of dock equipment and doors.
- Checking the condition of the units by examining overall operational integrity and condition of the equipment on the clients' behalf
- Troubleshooting and diagnosing most dock components
- Detecting unit malfunctions of worn out mechanical or electrical parts and communicating next steps for repair solutions to them customer
- Repairing , or replacing, major system components, including circuit boards and other electrical parts, hydraulic, mechanical with limited supervision
- Performing scheduled preventative maintenance services
- Diagnosing and ordering parts according to technical manuals
- Accounting for time each day for customer invoicing on electronic log book
- Being able to interpret and implement technical procedures
- Holding accountability for all parts, materials, tools, and consumables as required
- Must be willing and able to frequently push your ideas from inception to execution
- Operating and maintaining service vehicle in a clean, safe, and secure manner
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 1-2 years experience in the loading dock , overhead door or fabrication occupation.
- The ability weld, cut and fabricate with metals
- Experience with loading dock equipment that involves lifting/rigging, maintaining, dismantling, and installing machinery.
- Possess a valid driver’s license
- High school completion, G.E.D. or tech school graduate preferred or equivalent education
- Able to lift up to 50lbs with or without reasonable assistance
- Ability to be flexible and work in a fast-paced, everchanging environment
- Effective analytical and problem-solving skills
- Solid knowledge of general Lock-out/Tag-out procedures, Safety & WHMIS training
- Familiarity with the use of electrical/electronic diagnostic tools and the ability to read a schematic diagram
- Knowledge of the use of hand and power tools
- Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems for dock and O.H. Door equipment
- Proficiency in data input on electronic devices
- Strong communication skills as the frontline contact between Hansler and the customer
